PhoenixUSB development complete
Planning for funding begins
(Santa Rosa, CA) - After 8 weeks in the classroom and 11 weeks of development over the summer, PhoenixUSB is in a market-ready state and is preparing for mass production. While their original intention for a Kickstarter campaign was to develop a company out of the PhoenixUSB product, the students are now aiming for a non-profit approach to distributing the PhoenixUSB device. Project Manager, Douglas S.M. Lum, had this to say about the change:
"All of us are enjoying the process of bringing this product to market; however, family and financial commitments are getting in the way for most of us. Because of this fact, we as a group have decided to only ask for enough funding to get the hardware for the Phoenix devices to us and for enough funding to fulfill the Kickstarter rewards. Any additional funding will go towards sending leftover PhoenixUSB devices to underperforming High Schools around the country to hopefully give their students some experience to have a future in the IT industry."

Students continue classroom success
phoenixusb development continues
(Santa Rosa, CA) - Students from local junior college continue development of PhoenixUSB device during summer. Most worked part-time jobs to sustain themselves while dedicating their free time to development and improvement of the PhoenixUSB product.
A generous local business (that wishes to remain anonymous) has volunteered a section of their workspace for the students to have meetings and collaborate on their project. A representative of the company commented "These students have a really neat idea and I want to see it become a reality. Since we only use the meeting room one or two days a week, it's no skin off our back to let them use it the other days [of the week]".

PHOENIXUSB DRAWS CLOSER TO MARKET READINESS
STUDENTS CONTINUE SUCCESS OF THE FALL CLASS
(Santa Rosa, CA) - In the fall of 2014, the Santa Rosa Junior College's IT Support class developed a functional tech toolkit working off of a USB drive. Though it was an undeniable success, it was still in need of work to make it a more user-friendly, attractive product. To do this, the Spring 2015 class volunteered with enthusiasm to pick up where their predecessors left off.
The Spring class had 4 weeks to polish the rough edges of what has been dubbed the PhoenixUSB. Among the improvements are an easy to use graphical user interface, an improved selection of utilities included with the device, and a size upgrade from 64GB to 128GB at the same cost per unit.

TECH SUCCESS AT SANTA ROSA JUNIOR COLLEGE
IT CLASS CREATES MARKET VIABLE PRODUCT
(Santa Rosa, CA) - The Santa Rosa Junior College's IT Support class is set with an exciting challenge every semester: create a product which could be brought to market. This challenge serves to provide solid experience in the real-life practices of product development and teamwork, but with a scant 5 weeks to progress from conception to completion, producing a viable prototype has historically proven to be overambitious.
The Fall 2014 class, however, managed just such a feat. Students developed a toolkit for IT technicians and amateurs alike. Available on a standard USB drive, it included a variety of reputable open-source software to assist in such tasks as data recovery, malware scanning, and secure data backup. At the end of those 5 weeks, the 2014 IT Support class was the first class to have a viable product for the market.
